Southern California Tourist: Visit Fillmore
Now this Southern California tourist spot may not be the best place to plan your entire vacation, but its location makes it perfect for day trips and it is well worth the stop. Fillmore is the stereotypical Southern California small town. Set amidst acres of fragrant citrus trees, this charming small town offers antique shopping, mom and pop dining, and some local entertainment and activities.
This small Southern California tourist stop is located in the center of the Heritage Valley. Just 30 miles north off of Highway 126; this would be a perfect stop during a Ventura or Santa Barbara road trip.
Perhaps Fillmore is most notably known for the Western tourist train, which is a mile round trip train ride in a vintage 1940’s Pullman car which makes its way through the Heritage valley. Here you will see views of orange, lemon, and avocado groves from places you will not be able to experience in a car. Your train journey will stop in Santa Paula for an hour layover where you can get lunch or shop the antique stores. Also make sure to visit the California Oil museum just steps away from the train station while in Santa Paula. The train also has a diner car where you can buy snacks and drinks on your way back.
So while this Southern California tourist destination doesn’t offer enough amenities for your entire vacation, it is definitely worth the stop, and the kids will love it too!
